A coalition of six Philadelphia-based arts organizations will launch a new, monthlong festival celebrating LGBTQIA+ artists and community during Pride Month.

Altissimo Arts, Cross Keys Theatre Collective, East Passyunk Opera Project, Liberty City Arts, Prismatic Arts Ensemble and Wear Yellow Proudly will present the inaugural Philly Pride Arts Festival, or “Philly PrideAF,” at venues across the city in June.

The festival will feature performances, concerts, cabaret, outdoor events and community activities highlighting the region’s queer arts scene.

Organizers said the collaborative structure — bringing together independent groups to share resources and audiences — sets the festival apart. Events will also partner with LGBTQIA+-affirming artists, local businesses and mutual aid organizations, with opportunities for attendees to support community efforts.

“The Philly Pride Arts Festival grew out of a desire to celebrate queer artistry while also caring for one another as a community,” said Katrina Thurman, general and artistic director of East Passyunk Opera Project.

Alice Chung and Helen Zhibing Huang, co-founders of Wear Yellow Proudly, said the effort reflects Philadelphia’s strong arts and community ties. “In many ways, this collaboration feels like an ‘Arts UN,’ ” they said.

The festival will also include an internship program led by Cross Keys Theatre Collective for emerging arts professionals ages 16 and older.
